Amazon has created a new group dedicated to agentic artificial intelligence (AI) aimed at helping users automate more aspects of their lives, according to an internal email obtained by Reuters on Tuesday.
The group will be led by Swami Sivasubramanian, an AWS executive, and will report directly to AWS CEO Matt Garman. In the email, Garman highlighted that agentic AI could become a multi-billion-dollar business for AWS. Sivasubramanian, who was previously AWS’s VP of AI and data, will take charge of this initiative.
Agentic AI focuses on automating tasks for users without requiring them to prompt the system for action. Amazon showcased some of these capabilities last week in an announcement about an updated version of its Alexa voice service, set to roll out to customers later this month.
Garman emphasized that AI agents would play a key role in driving innovation and accelerating customer progress in the future.
In related news, AWS senior vice president Peter DeSantis also announced further reorganizations within AWS, including the integration of AI groups like Bedrock and SageMaker, as well as hardware engineering, into the compute organization. Additionally, a new group combining customer experience and commerce was formed.
