Elon Musk's Tesla introduced a new, higher-priced version of its popular Model Y in the U.S., Canada, and Europe on Thursday, following its initial release in China.
The updated Model Y, a long-range all-wheel-drive variant, is priced at $59,990 in the U.S., which is 25% more expensive than the previous version, priced at $47,990. This new variant includes the optional supervised full self-driving software, previously available for an additional $8,000 on earlier Model Y versions.
Deliveries of the new Model Y are expected to begin in March.
With this launch, Tesla now offers four versions of the Model Y in the U.S., with the new variant priced the highest, surpassing even the performance version.
The new model features redesigned exteriors, upgraded interior features, and a slightly extended range of 320 miles (515 km), according to Tesla.
The Model Y, which was first introduced in 2020, became the world's best-selling car in 2023. However, it faced a dip in sales momentum last year due to increasing competition from Chinese rivals, while demand for electric vehicles weakened in some markets.
