Amazon has pledged $1 million to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural fund and will stream the event on its Prime Video service, contributing an additional $1 million in-kind donation, according to an Amazon spokesperson.
These donations were first reported by the Wall Street Journal. Amazon joins another tech company, Meta Platforms, which is also donating $1 million to the inauguration on January 20.
Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder and executive chairman, is scheduled to meet with Trump next week, as Trump confirmed in a Thursday interview with CNBC. Trump has previously criticized coverage of his administration by The Washington Post, which Bezos owns.
The Post opted not to endorse a candidate in the November election, a decision that blocked a potential endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, according to National Public Radio.
Bezos defended the Post’s decision in an opinion piece, stating that "most people believe the media is biased," and emphasized that the paper and other media outlets needed to restore credibility. Trump raised a record $106.7 million for his 2017 inauguration.
