Tim Cook on His Future: 'Hard to Imagine Life Without Apple

AAPL

Apple (AAPL) is undergoing significant transformations, with the company rolling out its Apple Intelligence generative AI platform while grappling with slowing iPhone sales and searching for its next big product.

At the same time, it has seen several key executives depart over the past year, including Matt Fischer, head of the App Store; Carol Surface, chief people officer; Sjoerd Gehring, VP of talent management; and Dan Riccio, head of Apple's headset division, according to Bloomberg.

CFO Luca Maestri is also set to transition to lead Apple's corporate services teams starting January 1. These executive changes continue a trend from 2022 and 2023, during which Apple saw several senior leaders retire or leave for other opportunities.

However, CEO Tim Cook remains committed to Apple for the long haul. In a recent interview with Wired's Steven Levy, Cook expressed his deep connection to the company, saying, "It's a privilege of a lifetime to be here," and that he would remain in his role until he feels it’s time to step away and explore the next chapter. Cook joined Apple in 1998 from Compaq and served as COO before becoming CEO in 2011.

Under Cook's leadership, Apple has navigated major changes, including the loss of co-founder Steve Jobs, the launch of successful products like the Apple Watch and AirPods, and the transition from Intel to custom Apple chips in Macs. However, the company has also faced challenges, such as the cancellation of its long-term Apple Car project and slow sales of the Apple Vision Pro headset. Additionally, Apple is currently dealing with an antitrust lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice accusing the company of anti-competitive behavior.

With so much on his plate, it remains uncertain when Cook will eventually step down after 13 years as CEO.
