Nvidia has reportedly hired around 200 new employees in China this year to strengthen its research efforts and advance autonomous driving technologies, according to Bloomberg News on Wednesday.
Over the past few years, the AI chipmaker has expanded its presence in China, growing its workforce in the country to nearly 600 employees, with a newly opened office in the Zhongguancun tech hub in Beijing, sources told Bloomberg.
Globally, Nvidia employed approximately 29,600 people across 36 countries as of the end of its fiscal year 2024, based on a filing released in February. Nvidia declined to comment on the Bloomberg report.
The company is currently under investigation in China for alleged violations of anti-monopoly laws, a move widely interpreted as a response to recent U.S. restrictions targeting the Chinese semiconductor industry.
China contributed about 17% of Nvidia’s revenue for the fiscal year ending in January, down from 26% two years earlier.
