Google Pushes for FTC Action to Break Up Microsoft’s OpenAI Hosting Deal

Google has reportedly urged the U.S. government to intervene and break up Microsoft's exclusive agreement to host OpenAI's technology on its cloud infrastructure, according to The Information.

This conversation came after the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) inquired about Microsoft's business practices as part of an ongoing investigation. Competitors of Microsoft in the cloud services market, including Google and Amazon, are seeking to host OpenAI’s models to prevent customers from needing to access Microsoft's servers to use OpenAI's technology.

The report also mentions that customers using OpenAI technology through Microsoft might face additional charges if they don't use Microsoft's cloud services. Google and other competitors have raised concerns that these extra costs could negatively impact customers. Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, and the FTC have not yet commented on the matter.
