Inflation Declines in Five German States, Suggesting a National Downtrend

In June, preliminary data revealed a decline in inflation across five key German states, suggesting a potential decrease in national inflation. 

Specifically, inflation in Saxony dropped to 2.8% from 3.1% the previous month, while in Brandenburg it fell to 2.6% from 2.9%. In Baden-Wuerttemberg, the rate decreased to 1.9% from 2.1%, and in Hesse it dropped to 1.8% from 1.9%. 

Similarly, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state, saw inflation fall to 2.2% in June from 2.5% in May. Bavaria, however, maintained a steady inflation rate of 2.7% in June. Economists surveyed by Reuters anticipated Germany's harmonized inflation rate to be 2.6% in June, down from 2.8% in May. 

The national inflation figures, set to be released before the euro zone inflation data on Tuesday, will be closely watched by economists. Euro zone inflation for June is expected to be 2.5%, a slight decrease from 2.6% in the previous month according to Reuters' poll of economists.
