McDonald's announced on Tuesday that it will not impose any surcharges on eggs in its meals and will introduce $1 McMuffins through its app, aiming to attract more customers in the U.S.

Michael Gonda, McDonald's chief impact officer for North America, emphasized on LinkedIn that, unlike some other companies, McDonald's USA will not add surcharges on eggs, which are 100% cage-free and sourced domestically.

This move comes as McDonald's seeks to appeal to lower- and middle-income consumers, who have been cutting back on dining out due to rising inflation.

Egg prices have surged across the U.S., with retailers like Walmart facing higher costs due to bird flu outbreaks affecting egg production. In response, Waffle House recently introduced a 50-cent surcharge for each egg ordered.

McDonald's reported a significant drop in U.S. sales in its latest earnings report, despite seeing an unexpected increase in global sales.
