Japan in Talks with US on Proposed Reciprocal Tariffs

Japan has already begun discussions with the United States in response to President Donald Trump’s directive to create a plan for potential tariffs, according to a government spokesperson on Friday.

"We have already started communication with the U.S.," said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi during a press briefing. "Japan will carefully assess the details of the measures to be announced and their potential impact on our country before responding appropriately." Trump has instructed his economic team to develop plans for reciprocal tariffs on countries that impose taxes on U.S. imports.
