Indonesia is nearing an agreement with Apple Inc. on an investment plan that may lead to the lifting of a ban on iPhone 16 sales, Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani revealed to Bloomberg News on Tuesday.

“We hope to resolve this matter within a week or two,” Roeslani stated during an interview with Bloomberg Television in Davos, Switzerland.

Apple has not yet provided a comment on the situation, and attempts to reach the Indonesian government for remarks were unsuccessful.

The ban on iPhone 16 sales in Indonesia, implemented last year, stemmed from Apple’s failure to comply with a regulation requiring smartphones sold in the country to include at least 40% locally-produced components.

Although Apple lacks manufacturing facilities in Indonesia—a nation of approximately 280 million people—it has operated application developer academies there since 2018.
