On Sunday, the Teamsters announced that its members at Costco Wholesale had voted in favor of a nationwide strike, as they entered the final stage of contract talks ahead of the Jan. 31 deadline.
The union, representing over 18,000 Costco employees, revealed that 85% of its members supported the strike authorization.
The union stated that the vote reflects Costco’s ongoing failure to engage in constructive bargaining. The master agreement between the two parties is set to expire on Jan. 31.
Costco had not responded to Reuters’ request for comment outside of regular business hours.
The union also noted that the final week of negotiations began on Jan. 20.
