Microsoft (MSFT) is introducing its Copilot AI assistant to Microsoft 365 applications for consumers, while also increasing the subscription price for the first time since 2013.
This update provides Microsoft 365 subscribers with access to AI-powered features in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote, which can assist with content generation based on prompts. Subscribers will receive monthly AI credits to use for these tasks.
Additionally, Microsoft is launching an app called Microsoft Designer, which uses AI to edit and create new images.
With the inclusion of Copilot, the cost for Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions will rise by $3 a month, bringing the prices to $9.99 and $12.99, respectively. Annual subscriptions will be priced at $99.99 and $129.99. A family subscription allows up to six users.
Microsoft's shares closed 0.4% lower at $424.58 on Thursday, though they have increased by nearly 8% over the past year.
