Lisbon will host Europe’s largest annual tech conference, Web Summit, this week, where industry leaders and policymakers will discuss the potential impact of a second Donald Trump presidency.

Senior executives from major companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Meta will join top European officials to debate the future of artificial intelligence, social media regulation, and how Trump’s return to the White House might affect Europe. Trump has previously claimed he could end the Ukraine-Russia war within 24 hours of taking office.

Days after his potential re-election, two senior Ukrainian officials, Alex Bornyakov and Mykhailo Fedorov, will speak about Ukraine’s continued innovation despite the ongoing conflict.

John Adam, Chief Revenue Officer at Aimsoftpro, a software development firm with 70% of its workforce in Ukraine, shared mixed feelings about Trump's stance on the war. While some fear his approach may favor the status quo, others hope for a resolution.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk, although not attending, will be a recurring topic, particularly his role in Ukraine through the Starlink satellite service, his success with SpaceX, and his controversial leadership of social media platform X (formerly Twitter). One panel will explore how Europe could develop a rival to SpaceX, while another will discuss whether Musk "destroyed Twitter." Joe Benarroch, who left his role as X’s business operations head in June, will join a panel on social media.

Mark Weinstein, founder of the privacy-focused MeWe platform, will also discuss how platforms might become more permissive in their content moderation if Trump is re-elected, as Trump has been a strong critic of online moderation.
